Why New Beginnings Church?

Peter, Kelly & Noah Gorrell

We came looking for a new church and it filled our immediate needs. Also the sermon came from real people …no acting. We felt comfortable on our first visit. We were made to felt welcome. We were also impressed with the youth group for our son.

We moved to Iowa for our own new beginning. And we found ourselves blessed with a child from God. We have found that the perfect atmosphere, people and the setting at New Beginnings Church. We also we have re-found Christ through new Beginnings Church. We also want to lead our lives in a better way, to be better Christians for God and our family as well as ourselves.
I grew up in several large churches. The church I was with the longest numbered in the thousands. It was a very wealthy church. Being wealthy sometimes the politics go in the way. With politics comes hypocrisy and with hypocrisy came my desire to stay away. I have been in many different places in the church structure and since moving to Iowa have seen search for a place to ease myself back in. After the struggle to conceived, I lost some of my faith. I could not understand why God would make me struggle to have my heart’s desire. I realize now that the Lord knew my heart’s desire was Danny my son. Had I not struggled to have a child, Danny would not be Danny. He would be someone else. When Lee and I came back to New Beginnings after attending once I felt at home and at peace. I did not feel as though I would be judged for things in my past. People in this church seemed to be more interested in where I am going than what I have done.

I attended church with my son. During my working years I did not have any free time to attend church but I prayed that would change! When you do or pray that God changes things! I had been ill and could no longer work. I believe my son was sent to New Beginnings Church, then he brought me to New Beginnings Church. I believe I am where God wants me for spiritual growth and development. Plus, perhaps drawing my family closer to Him! When we pray, God changes things!

I came to New Beginnings because I asked God for a sign. I can truly say God lead me to New Beginnings Church. I came by myself the following Sunday and was warmly greeted by the Senior Pastor and quickly introduced to a more experienced Christian. She invited me to sit with her and her husband. The Associate Pastor was giving the sermon that week about whether you are a Martha or a Mary. It was so relevant to me and delivered in a way that I could relate. In other words I was able to get something out of it. Not once during my first visit did I feel uncomfortable, unworthy or unwelcome. I felt like I belonged and it has been that way ever since.

One Sunday morning I passed by a sign on the right hand side of the road saying “New Beginnings Church” with a butterfly and arrow on the sign. My eye was drawn to that butterfly. It looked so full of new life and freedom. In the freedom the word forgiveness resides not only for others who have hurt me, but for me as well. When you forgive, you and the other person are set free to love and live with a New Beginning. As I passed the sign I prayed, “Lord, that’s what I need, a new beginning, but I’m not going to go until you say I can.” Two weeks later as I came up on the sign I heard the Lord or the Spirit say, “Go, you have my blessing.” I have been here since that Sunday and have been given a New Beginning in life.”

I had just moved back from California. I was laying in bed one night reflecting on the fact that I had slipped back into the rut I had been in before I moved out to California. It hit me like a truck that the one thing that would help me change was a new relationship with God. The next day at work, I had mentioned this to my co-worker, Paul Mahurin. He then mentioned this church he and his family attended called New Beginnings. He told me it was welcoming and that everybody there was nice. I told him I would attend and I did. It was one of the best, if not the best choice I have made. The sermons are relatable and easy to understand, and everybody is indeed nice. I even got my sister to attend. I know I still have a long way to go, but I am a work in progress. I thank everyone here who has held out their hand and helped me this far. I hope I can do that for others some day.

I desperately needed a “New Beginning” so the name in itself was inviting. This church and the people in it are very important and grow in importance with each week that I attend. There’s not much judging in New Beginnings and I needed this in order to continue to worship and walk with the Lord.
